International Astronautical Congress (IAC 2018)

This week the German city of Bremen was the world capital of the space sector. From the 1st to the 5th of October, the 69th edition of the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) brought together more than 6,400 professionals from 60 countries, with the slogan “Involving Everyone”.

Alén Space could not miss an event of this importance, with the presence of our colleague Diego Nodar and our assessor Fernando Aguado, who took part in five days full of meetings, new ideas, and new professional contacts. The conference programme of IAC 2018 also included a presentation of DustCube and FireRS, two of the projects developed by the Alén Space team.

The IAC 2018 also broke its previous attendance records, with 6,400 professionals including Jim Bridenstine, administrator of NASA; the director-general of the European Space Agency (ESA), Johann-Dietrich Wörner; or Elzbieta Bieńkowska, European commissioner for the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs. Another of the week’s high points was the live broadcast from the International Space Station (ISS) of the symbolic moment when the German astronaut Alexander Gerst took over from the American Drew Feustel as commander of the ISS.
